GymAssist vs Hevy: which one to pick

Hevy is a popular workout tracker with a social feed and apps for phones and watches. GymAssist runs in the browser and in Telegram, shows load and recovery for 40 individual muscles and builds coaching into the same app. Here is how they compare, with sources.

What you can train today

Pick GymAssist when

You want to see which muscles have recovered, not just which ones you trained; you coach clients and would rather not pay for a separate coaching product; you like keeping your log inside Telegram.

Pick Hevy when

You need a watch app, a feed with friends and leaderboards, or want to bring your history over from Strong — Hevy has all of that and we do not yet.

FeatureGymAssistHevy
Platforms Browser on phone and desktop plus a Telegram Mini App; can be added to the home screen. No App Store or Google Play app. iPhone, iPad, Android, Apple Watch and Wear OS; the web app covers routines and stats.
Free Everything, no limits and no ads — free forever for the first 500 users. Up to 4 routines and 7 custom exercises; history and stats for 3 months.
Paid No paid features: one plan unlocks the whole app. Hevy Pro: $2.99 a month, $23.99 a year or $74.99 lifetime.
Languages English and Russian. 16 languages, Russian included.
Muscle map 40 muscles front and back: three delt heads, three triceps heads, upper, middle and lower chest. A heat map of the last 7 days by muscle group, not by individual muscle.
Muscle recovery A forecast for each of the 40 muscles on the same map as the load: what has recovered and what has not. Not shown.
Suggestions and progression Double progression: based on your last session it tells you when to add a rep and when to add weight. Hevy Trainer (Pro) builds a program and suggests progression; Hevy says it is an algorithm, not AI.
Programs 20 ready-made workouts and 10 programs, plus unlimited custom ones. Custom routines, up to 4 on the free tier; Hevy Trainer programs on Pro.
For coaches Coach mode in the same app: invite clients by code or link, see their workouts and stats, assign plans and nutrition, track payments. Clients get access through the coach. A separate product, Hevy Coach: from $25 a month for 1–10 clients and more for larger rosters; clients get Pro for free.
Body measurements Weight, body fat and 9 circumferences; arms, forearms, thighs and calves left and right separately. Free: weight and waist. Pro: body fat, 9 more circumferences and photos.
Rest timer Starts by itself after a working set. Starts automatically, per-exercise durations.
Social No feed; a workout card with the muscle map goes to Stories, a chat or a link. Follows, feed, likes, comments and leaderboards.
Export and import Not yet. CSV export; import only from Strong.
Telegram Mini App and bot: one-tap sign-in, notifications in your DMs. No.

Facts about Hevy come from its official website, help center and App Store listing as of October 11, 2026. Prices are US prices; plans change, so check them with Hevy.

What GymAssist does not have yet

  • An App Store or Google Play app and a watch app — it runs in the browser and in Telegram.
  • Offline mode: you need a connection to log a set.
  • Importing history from other apps and CSV export.
  • A social feed, likes and leaderboards.

How to switch

There is no import from Hevy yet, so start from your working weights: log your main lifts as usual in the first session. From the second one GymAssist tells you when to add weight, and the map starts tracking load and recovery. If all you remember are one-off maxes, the calculator turns them into working weights.

Try it on your next workout

Log your sets and the map shows load and recovery for 40 muscles. In the browser and in Telegram, nothing to install.
